We’ve been working behind the scenes on something developed with those difficult summer horses particularly in mind.

Summer sweet itch is associated with hypersensitivity to the bites of Culicoides midges, which is why simply feeding an oil can never replace proper midge control. But while we work on protecting these horses from the outside, we can also provide nutritional support from the inside.

That’s exactly where Summer Shield Oil fits into your summer-management programme.

Instead of simply bottling one ordinary vegetable oil, we’ve created a carefully selected blend:

• Cold-Pressed Linseed/Flaxseed Oil — makes up approximately 75% of the blend and provides our omega-3-rich foundation
• Rice Bran Oil — contributes additional fatty acids, including omega-6 and omega-9, plus naturally occurring gamma-oryzanol
• Canola Oil — further broadens the fatty-acid profile, including omega-9
• Natural Mixed Tocopherols 70% — Vitamin E-family antioxidants that help protect the delicate oils from oxidation
• Ascorbyl Palmitate — an oil-compatible Vitamin C derivative forming part of our antioxidant system

Because this isn’t just another everyday oil.

We specifically wanted an oil for owners managing horses that struggle through summer with itchy, sensitive skin and compromised coats, including horses prone to seasonal sweet-itch-type problems.

The emphasis is on providing omega-rich nutritional support for normal skin-barrier and coat health during the very months when these horses can need that extra support most.

But there’s an important difference:

Summer Shield is nutritional support — it isn’t a treatment or cure for sweet itch.

Midge avoidance and insect control remain incredibly important. That’s why we believe in a layered summer approach:
